What does a neurodivergent-affirming therapist actually do differently than a typical therapist?
A neurodivergent-affirming therapist looks at the whole person—not just the symptoms or challenges they’re experiencing. Rather than trying to make someone fit into a “typical” way of thinking, communicating, or functioning, we work with your unique brain and needs. This might mean exploring how neurodivergence impacts relationships, work, communication, emotions, or daily life, while building strategies that actually work for you. At Valyou, we focus on understanding yourself, working with your strengths, and finding ways to make life feel more manageable without asking you to mask or change who you are.
Do you only see neurodivergent clients?
Valyou specializes in supporting neurodivergent individuals, but we also work with adults who don’t identify as neurodivergent. We’re happy to connect and determine together whether our approach and areas of expertise are a good fit for your needs.
Do I have to have a formal diagnosis?
Nope. Self- or late-diagnosed clients are welcome; no formal testing required to be taken seriously.
What is the “free 15 minute call” you reference?
This call is an initial touch-base between you and Kristen. We’ll talk about any questions you have about the therapy process, what you’re looking for, and what support from Valyou might look like. It’s also an opportunity for us to get a better sense of your needs and make sure we’re a good fit to work together. There’s no fee for this call, and there’s no commitment to move forward with treatment.
Do you take insurance?
At this time, Valyou does not bill through insurance providers directly. However, we are happy to provide a superbill upon request.
What is a superbill?
A superbill is a detailed receipt for the services you received, including information your insurance company may need to process an out-of-network claim. If your plan offers out-of-network benefits, you can submit your superbill to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Valyou can provide a superbill upon request.
Are your hourly rates for individual sessions negotiable?
Our hourly rate is not negotiable. We strive to keep our fees consistent and transparent for all clients.
Do I need specific technology or programs to participate in virtual sessions?
Once you decide you’d like to begin services, you’ll receive a link to create your own TherapyPortal profile. TherapyPortal is HIPAA-compliant and privacy protected, giving you a secure place to meet virtually, communicate with your provider, schedule appointments, sign documents, and make payments. All you need on your end is an accessible email address and a device that allows access to a camera, speakers, and microphone [computer, cellphone, tablet, etc].
Am I limited to a certain number of sessions?
No. While a typical treatment plan may range from 6–8 weeks, there is no set number of sessions you are required to attend. You decide how long you would like to work together based on your progress, individual needs, and goals. Choosing to meet for one session does not commit you to a specific length of treatment.
Do you offer appointment times that can accommodate a full-time work schedule?
Absolutely! We know it can be tough to fit therapy into a busy work schedule. That’s why we offer early morning appointments starting at 6:00 a.m. and evening appointments between 5:00–9:00 p.m., making it easier to find a time that works for you.
Ready when you are.
